(Peoria, IL) — Illinois legislators are proposing a bill that would require lock caps on bottles of prescription painkillers. The state House overwhelmingly approved the legislation Wednesday night. The new lids would look like a padlock and would require a combination to open. The intent is to prevent drug and substance abuse and stop people from taking medicine that doesn’t belong to them. The bill’s next stop is Governor Rauner’s desk. If it passes, the legislation will go into effect next year.
