The heavy rains look to be upon us for the next few days. The National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the area from noon today until Wednesday evening at 7 pm. The NWS says widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches can be expected thru Wednesday with locally higher amounts possible. And, with areas already saturated from the recent rains, it is expected that flash flooding will occur in low lying areas. The area rivers and tributaries, which had just been under flooding stress a week ago with a five inch rain, will get with the heavy rains once again with the storms that will move thru over the next couple of days.
As for today, the National Weather Service says we are looking at showers and thunderstorms throughout the day and night with some of the storms capable of producing heavy rainfall. We’ll see a high today of 81 with a low tonight of 71. The NWS also adds that isolated strong to severe storms will be possible on Wednesday and Thursday evening with the primary threat being gusty winds. But, as for today, the threat doesn’t look to be severe weather but rather heavy rains.
