(Bloomington, IL) — Dennis Hastert successfully avoided TV and radio reporters last week as he burrowed through the media horde on his way into and out of the Dirksen federal building for his arraignment on federal currency violations. He’ll continue avoiding broadcasters this week by canceling plans to appear at the annual Illinois Broadcasters Association convention in Bloomington-Normal. Hastert had been scheduled to present an award to longtime friend and radio station owner Larry Nelson, but Nelson says now that Hastert’s appearance has been removed from the program. Hastert’s accused of lying to the FBI about trying to take money from his accounts as part of a three-and-a-halfmillion-dollar hush money payoff.
