>>LIHEAP Cuts Could Halt Cooling Assistance
(Sangamon County, IL) — Illinoisans who rely on the state to help them keep cool over the summer may be in for some bad news. Funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is on the chopping block. Governor Rauner is considering a clean sweep of state funding for the program. The feds pay for about two-thirds of the LIHEAP program, mostly the winter heating, but the summer cooling comes from the state. Sangamon County Resources Executive Director Sharmin Doering says cooling fans will still be available for seniors if the funding for the program is cut.
