The Illinois Senate on Tuesday, along party lines, voted down Governor Rauner’s property tax freeze plan. But, State Senator Kyle McCarter says the Illinois Senate’s hours long hearing was really more about theatrics and misdirection than an accurate airing of the Governor’s plan. McCarter, who has long been in favor of property tax reform, says Rauner wants to eliminate mandates that cause property tax rates to rise and leave local decision making in the hands of local government.
McCarter admits that a property tax freeze-only minus the reforms the Governor favors will not work. McCarter says it disappoints him about the orchestrated hearing. McCarter says Senate Democrats had the chance to move Governor Rauner’s property tax freeze plan forward but voted no.
