Rains that measured 3, 4, 5 and even more inches of rain on Sunday night and early Monday morning are still causing issues around the area today. A Flood Warning remains in effect today for Fayette County and northern Marion County. Streams and creeks all around the region are still flooded today. U.S. Route 51 remains closed today at Patoka due to flooding. And, in Fayette County Hurricane Creek near Mulberry Grove was at 17.6 feet at last check—-well above its 13 foot flood stage.
Meanwhile, the Kaskaskia River in Vandalia remains under a flood warning today. At last measure, the Kaskaskia River in Vandalia was at 20.1 feet-which is above its 18 foot flood stage. And, the river is now expected to crest near 23 feet by sometime later today. At 23 feet, the agriculture levee begins to be slightly overtopped but no residences should be affected. Large amounts of standing water, maybe more than would be expected at this point, can be seen all around the river and lower lying areas.
