The latest statistics from the Internal Revenue Service show Illinoisans continue to flee the state. Taxpayer migration data shows Illinois lost 105-thousand residents to other states in 2020. Ted Dabrowski, president of the nonprofit Wirepoints, says as a result, Illinois’ tax base took a hit, losing $10.6 billion dollars in taxable income to other states.
Only New York and California lost more residents than Illinois. Governor J.B. Pritzker has repeatedly denied that the state is losing residents, but Dabrowski says the IRS migration report is hard data that is indisputable.
