(Tamms, IL) — Add mold to the long, troubled history of Illinois’ supermax prison. The Southern Illinoisan this week reported that many parts of the prison at Tamms are covered in mold. Tamms has been closed since 2013, and there’s been almost constant talk of reopening the prison. But the report says it’d cost two-and-a-half-million-dollars just to clean the mold that is rampant inside the prison. A prison spokeswoman says the future of the prison is uncertain at this point.
