(Springfield, IL) — It could soon be a lot more expensive to drive in Illinois. I-DOT Secretary Randy Blankenhorn this week told reporters that he thinks it is inevitable that lawmakers will raise Illinois’ gas tax and/or license plate fees. Blankenhorn said the state is not spending enough money on roads, bridges, and trains. And he says it shows. Blankenhorn did not say how high he thinks the state’s gas tax will go. Right now, Illinois’ gas tax is the 10th highest in the nation, at 34 cents a gallon.
