Despite the recent big tornado outbreak, 2018 is wrapping up to be a pretty average year for tornadoes. Illinois typically sees about 54 tornadoes annually. Saturday’s tornadoes brought the total for this year to 57. Still, it’s a little disconcerting to see so many in December says State Climatologist Jim Angel.
The record was set in 2006, when there were 124 tornadoes.
