The state’s veterinarian is urging the public to watch out for bats and other animals that carry rabies. Bats are becoming more active and it’s a good idea to keep a safe distance from them says State Vet, Dr. Connie Austin.
About 3 percent of bats tested each year have rabies. Those bitten by an infected bat will need to have preventative treatment which includes shots and can be pretty expensive.
