Fayette County is now the second county in the state to become a Sanctuary for the Life of Unborn Human Beings. During Tuesday night’s monthly meeting, the board heard from three county residents in attendance who were in support of the resolution while Board Chairman Jeff Beckman read a letter in opposition of the resolution from another county resident who could not be in attendance in the meeting. After hearing all guest communication, the board later brought the matter up for a vote with no discussion beforehand and the measure passing unanimously by a vote of 10-0 with four board members not in attendance for the meeting. Fayette County joins Effingham County who passed their resolution for sanctuary last month. The resolutions passed by each county are merely symbolic, however, as federal and state laws that do not outlaw abortion supersede the county’s resolutions.
