The Vandalia School Board held a special meeting on Thursday afternoon, to clear up a couple of matters that needed to be taken care of before the end of the month. One of the issues came up with the new state budget, that was passed by the Illinois General Assembly on May 31st and then signed by Governor Rauner on June 4th. Vandalia Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Garrison explains there was a change in teacher retirement cap in the new budget.
So, the Vandalia School Board approved intent to retire for four teachers and one support staff individual at their special meeting Thursday. And, those will be under the old contract and would get the 6% retirement cap.
Dr. Garrison says the other issue was a change in contractual language with the Teacher’s contract over sick leave. And, the change had to be made to the language before the end of the month to avoid a large penalty. Both issues were approved unanimously by the board members on hand for the meeting.
