Gerald “Jerry” H. Libsack, 77, of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri, formerly of Mulberry Grove, Illinois, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018, in Dardenne Prairie, MO.
Masonic Rites will be held at 7:30 P.M., Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL. Burial will be held at Jefferson Barracks Nat. He was born April 9, 1941, in Greeley, CO, the son of Ruben & Ella Nora (Reichert) Libsack. Married Phyllis Jean Redmond March 25, 1978, Plattsmouth, NE.
Jerry graduated from College High School, Greeley, CO in 1958. Received his bachelors degree from Colorado State Univ. in 1962 and masters from Wichita State Univ. in 1973. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Air force in 1962 through the Reserve Officers Training Corps. He served numerous communications and electronic assignments both overseas and state side with the majority of time with the Strategic Air Command working in the International Ballistic Missile Programs. Jerry retired in 1987 as a Lt. Colonel while serving at Scott AFB, IL.
After retiring from the Air Force he worked for Motorola Corp., BTAC Corp. and Computer Sciences Corp. in a consulting role to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Air Force.
Jerry was a Rancher and Farmer in the Mulberry Grove, IL area; a Volunteer at Bond County Senior Center delivering meals on wheels and counselor for the Senior Health Ins. Program of Illinois. He received the Governors Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Volunteer in 2006 and the Illinois Department of Insurance Award for 2011 Volunteer Counselor of the Year for Southern Illinois for work with the Medicare program.
A member of Temperance Lodge # 16, A.F.A.M. Vandalia, IL, serving as Master from 2013-2014; Old National Trail Shrine Club, VandaIia; and Shriners International.
He is survived by: Wife – Phyllis Libsack, Dardenne Prairie, MO; Daughters – Connie Cameron and Sean, Smyrna, GA, Debbie Garde, White Springs, FL and Charlene Watson & Gary, O’Fallon, MO; Grandchildren – David, Heather, Devin, Elizabeth and Colleen; Great Grandchildren – Harper and Haley; Brother – Roger Libsack, Greeley, CO; Sister – Marianna Rohn & Bob, Grover, CO.
