Lawmakers are hearing testimony from victims of sexual abuse in Chicago Public Schools and are preparing legislation to protect student statewide. House and Senate members listened to moving testimony from two victims who said school administrators didn’t call the police and made them feel like they were in the wrong. State Representative Camille Lilly praised the victims for their bravery and said there needs to be more support for those who have been abused.
Other discussed students needing an advocate to help them thru the process of reporting abuse. More hearings are likely this summer.
