Just two business items were handled during the Vandalia City Council’s second meeting of June that was held Monday night. Under new business, the council approved the transfer of two lake lots. There was no old business to discuss and very few standing committees shared reports. During the mayor’s report, Mayor Rick Gottman called for a meeting of the Personnel Committee and the Economic Development Committee to be held this Thursday at noon to discuss applicants for the city’s Economic Development Director position.
During the water and sewer report, alderwoman Dorothy Crawford noted that power was lost at the water plant Monday due to what they believed to be a squirrel chewing on the line, but power was able to be restored quickly. And during the Tourism Committee report, alderman Steve Barker noted that despite the very hot weather, the Grand Levee this past weekend saw very good crowds and Barker deemed it a successful event.
