On July 1st, Fayette County will have their 3rd different coroner in less than one year. At Tuesday night’s Fayette County Board meeting, the board accepted the resignation of David Hejl as Fayette County Coroner, effective on June 30th. And, the board appointed David Harris as Coroner, to serve from July 1st until November 30th of this year. Harris, who is retired law enforcement and ran for Fayette County Sheriff in 2006, says he is excited to face this challenge.
And, although he is stepping down as Coroner, Harris says that current Coroner David Hejl will stay on board as a Deputy Coroner.
When Harris ran for Sheriff in 2006, losing in the Election to Aaron Lay, he ran as a Democrat. But, Harris says he is a registered Republican and is running for Coroner as a Republican in the November General Election. Harris will be running to fill the time on remaining on former Coroner Bruce Bowen’s term, after he retired at the end of 2017.
