The Vandalia City Council will hold a work session today following concern from lake lot owners about what is and isn’t permitted as far as adding on to structures on the lake lots. Brent Tedrick and Mike McCall, Jr. addressed the council last week following their building permit request to add and addition onto their trailer being denied for the second year in a row. Tedrick and McCall explained that a nearby lot owner had expanded their structure and had put permanent posts in the ground which is not permitted by lake ordinances. Tedrick and McCall explained that their addition would be done by a professional construction company and would not make it a permanent structure as other people have done without being penalized. City attorney Ryan Connor explained that the issue was actually discussed about a year ago, but no recommendation was put before the board as far as how to change to enforce the ordinance.
And Connor says it looks like the ordinance itself or enforcement of the ordinance needs to be modified.
Following discussion, Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman said he was calling for a work session to be held today at 4pm to discuss the matter. The session will be held in council chambers and is open to the public.
