(Pittsburgh, PA) — Joe Musgrove worked seven scoreless innings in his return from the disabled list and the Pirates cruised past the Cardinals 8-1 in Pittsburgh. Musgrove earned the win and also collected his first career hit in his Pirates’ debut. Francisco Cervelli drove in three with a double and Josh Harrison had two RBI in the winning effort. Pittsburgh has won two-of-three on the heels of a four-game slide. Tommy Pham’s eighth inning homer provided all of the St. Louis offense and John Gant was charged with the loss. The Cardinals have dropped three straight.
(Chicago, IL) — Ben Zobrist snapped a 1-all tie with a two-run double in four-run seventh inning and the Cubs went on to beat the Giants 6-2 at Wrigley Field. Kris Bryant added a two-run single in the frame as Chicago ended a two-game slide. Kyle Hendricks struck out seven over seven innings of two-hit, one-run ball for his fourth win. Derek Holland allowed three runs, but just two earned, in six innings to fall to 2-and-6 with the loss. Gorkys Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer for San Francisco. The Giants have dropped three in-a-row.
