With Illinois’ finances in shambles, lawmakers should not receive a pay raise, according to State Senator Kyle McCarter. Senator McCarter is among a bi-partisan group of legislators in the Senate and House sponsoring legislation to reject the scheduled 2.2 percent pay increase.
While lawmakers currently work on a new state budget for the fiscal year that starts on July 1st, Illinois’ currently budget is more than 2 billion dollars in the red, and overdue bills top 6 billion dollars. Senator McCarter says given the tendency of state government for overspending year after year, rejecting the pay raise is good behavior.
