The Illinois House is passing legislation aimed at giving those sitting in jail awaiting trial a chance to vote. The bill requires county election officials to work with jails in getting eligible inmates voter registration forms and making voting available. The bill is sponsored by State Representative Juliana Stratton who says they deserve to exercise their right to vote.
Opponents say they should be worrying about helping victims instead. The bill now moves to the Illinois Senate.
