(New York, NY) — Jacob deGrom had a solid outing for the Mets as they dropped the Cardinals 6-2 at CitiField. deGrom allowed four hits and one run over five-and-two-thirds innings. Todd Frazier drilled a two-run double to put the Mets on the board in the first inning. Travis d’Arnaud and Yoenis Cespedes each slammed solo home runs for New York, which is 2-and-0 for the first time since 2013. Michael Wacha gave up five hits and four runs in less than five frames to take the loss for St. Louis. Matt Carpenter homered in defeat. The Cards look to prevent the sweep on Sunday.
(Miami, FL) — Ben Zobrist drove in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning to help the Cubs clip the Marlins 10-6 in Miami. Kris Bryant added a three-run double later in the 10th-inning for insurance. Kyle Schwarber went deep in the second inning for Chicago. He and Anthony Rizzo had two RBI apiece. Yu Darvish gave up five runs over four-and-a-third frames in his Cubs’ debut and Pedro Strop was credited with the win. Bryan Holaday singled home a run in the bottom-of-the-eighth to tie the game for Miami and force extra innings. Brad Ziegler was charged with the loss in relief as the Marlins fell to 1-and-2.
