State Senator Kyle McCarter may very soon have a new position. On Wednesday, President Trump nominated Senator McCarter to be the next Ambassador to Kenya. McCarter was nominated for the position last year by Illinois’ Republican Congressional Delegation. Senator McCarter and his family founded Each One Feed One International, which helps orphaned and abandoned children, and provides medical treatment. McCarter has been working with the charity for better than 30 years and has spent considerable time in Kenya over the years. In a statement on social media, Senator McCarter says “It is an honor to be asked to represent President Trump and our great nation in a country where I have lived and served for many years. I look forward to bringing about a closer relationship that will benefit our nations.” Senator McCarter is now expected to face a confirmation hearing within the next few weeks in front of the U.S. Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee.
Senator McCarter has served as the area’s State Senator since February of 2009, when he was appointed to take over for the retiring Frank Watson. Although McCarter did not run for re-election, he is still the area’s State Senator until early in 2019.
