A fire at an under renovation church building in St. Elmo led to several departments supplying mutual aid to fight the blaze. St. Elmo Fire Chief Doug Engeljohn says the fire was on the currently vacant church building at 3rd and Ash Streets in St. Elmo. Chief Engeljohn says it was currently in a remodel. Chief Engeljohn added they received mutual assistance from the Brownstown, Vandalia and Shumway Fire Departments. Chief Engeljohn adds the building was a total loss and there were no injuries in the blaze. Chief Engeljohn added they were hindered by low flow of water and the department did have pumps going to try and help. He also said that many streets are closed around the scene, to make sure people stay safe due to the possibility of falling brick.
