It is Primary Election Day in Illinois. Republican and Democrat voters will be deciding on candidates today, starting at the top of the ticket with contested races in both parties for Governor. Bruce Rauner is challenged in today’s primary by State Representative Jeanne Ives on the Republican side. While on the Democrat side you have a slate of 6 candidates–JB Pritzker, Chris Kennedy, Daniel Biss, Bob Daiber, Tio Hardiman and Robert Marshall all vying for the Democrat nomination. For Attorney General, Lisa Madigan announced earlier this year she was not running for another term, making this an open seat. On the Democrat side, there are 8 candidates vying for the nomination—among them are former Governor Pat Quinn and State Senator Kwame Raoul. On the Republican side, Erika Harold is running again Gary Grasso for the Republican nomination.
Locally, there are some contested races today. For 54th district State Senate, with Kyle McCarter not running for another term, there are 4 Republicans–Jason Plummer, Rafael Him, George Barber and Ben Stratemeyer–vying for the Republican nomination. At this time, there is no Democrat candidate in the race. For 107th district State Representative, with John Cavaletto not running for another term, you have Republicans Blaine Wilhour and Laura Myers vying for the nomination. The winner of today’s primary will face Democrat David Seiler in the November General Election. Democrats will decide today on their candidate for Congress in the November election. Carl Spoerer and Kevin Gaither are running today for the Democrat nomination, with the winner to face Congressman John Shimkus in the November General Election.
