VCHS junior Morgan Dothager made it two in row, claiming the 101lb title at the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association State Championships held in Springfield this past Saturday. After earning a first round BYE, Dothager picked up a win by Major Decision, 15-5, over Lauren Mora of Senn High School and then beat Cheyanna Bork of Decatur Eisenhower by Sudden Victory, 2-0, to advance to the championship bout. Dothager was able to beat Natalie Gonzalez of Elgin High School by Fall in just 2:36 to claim back-to-back championship titles.
After claiming the IWCOA championship on Saturday, Dothager followed that title up claiming yet another championship, as she took 1st in the Cadet and Junior H3 Division at the Illinois USAW Girls Folkstyle State Championships on Sunday beating out medalists from the 96lb, 101lb and 106lb from Saturday’s tournament.
Also on Sunday, VCHS freshman Taylor Dothager, in her first year of wrestling, claimed fourth place of the Cadet and Junior H4 division of the Folkstyle State Championships. Taylor fell in her first-round bout before winning by Decision 12-6 and winning by fall in 3:36 to wrestle back into the 3rd Place bout where she then lost to Elvie Villa of Bulldog Elite Wrestling by Major Decision, 16-5.
