A Vandalia man charged with attempted murder made an appearance in court on Tuesday. 48-year old Gregory M. Hill appeared in Fayette County Court for a pre-trial hearing which marked his first appearance since changing defense counsel. Hill had previously been represented by Public Defender Bill Starnes before hiring his own attorney, Thomas Lacy, to represent him. At Tuesday’s hearing a defense motion for a continuance was approved and a new pre-trial date was set for April 10 at 10am. Hill is charged with one count of attempted murder as information states Hill allegedly “with the intent to commit the offense of first degree murder performed a substantial step toward the commission of that offense, in that he, without lawful justification, and with the intent to kill the victim, did throw the victim to the floor and in doing so caused a spinal injury.” The count is a Class X felony and is punishable by 6 to 30 years in prison. Hill is also charged with one count of Aggravated Domestic Battery, a Class 2 felony. Hill remains in the Fayette County Jail on $750,000 bond.
