A St. Peter man charged with two counts of murder made an appearance in Fayette County Court on Tuesday for a pre-trial hearing. 24-year old Alexander R. Beccue appeared with defense attorney Ed Deters for the hearing which included the setting of a trial date in the matter. After entering a demand for jury trial in August, a trial date had not been previously set before Tuesday’s hearing led to trial being scheduled for June 18 at 8:30am. A date for subpoena return was also set for March 27 at 1pm. Prior to the hearing, Beccue had been in the custody of the Department of Corrections where he has resided since his first court appearance on August 14, 2017 due to a parole violation. With the Department of Corrections set to release Beccue on Wednesday, he was remanded to the custody of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office following the hearing where he will now be held on $1 million bond which was set last August as well. Beccue is charged with 2 counts of First Degree Murder as information states that Beccue allegedly “with the intent to kill Joshua K. Smith, shot Joshua K. Smith in the head” with what information from an unlawful possession charge against Beccue states was a .38 revolver handgun.
