Governor Bruce Rauner says there needs to be a frank discussion about how to curb gun violence in schools. Governor Rauner says Illinois already has tough gun laws and that any major challenges should be made on the federal level. He says he favors having armed security in schools but says that there are pros and cons to arming teachers as well. The Governor said he does not support a proposal that arose after the Las Vegas shooting.
House Democrats plan to push forward with a package of gun control bills next week including one restricting the sale of assault rifles.
