(Chicago, IL) — One of the Democrats running for governor in Illinois is in trouble with the state’s largest teachers’ unions. Both the Illinois Federation of Teachers and the Illinois Education Association yesterday blasted Chris Kennedy for saying that Cairo schools are failing because none of their students are college ready. The state’s school report card says 16 percent of kids in the tiny, impoverished town in far southern Illinois are ready for college. IEA President Kathi Griffin says Kennedy needs to get his facts straight, and needs to apologize to kids in Cairo for what he said.
