The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office held an Active Shooter Drill this week. The drill was held on Thursday afternoon at the Fayette County Courthouse. Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith says they were assisted by both the Vandalia and St. Elmo Police Departments. Sheriff Smith says they had someone play the role of an active shooter and Sheriff Smith says the staff did a great job of protecting themselves and others. Sheriff Smith says they had a meeting afterwards in the large courtroom to talk with staff about any issues they observed and what they should do in each scenario. Sheriff Smith says he wants to thank the Fayette County Courthouse staff for their cooperation in the drill and what training they need to do in order to perhaps save a live some day.
