(Chicago, IL) — The push toward legalizing marijuana in Illinois is getting past the science and into the tougher conversation. Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle yesterday told lawmakers that one benefit of legal marijuana will be a change in how many young people of color are arrested. Preckwinkle yesterday told lawmakers at their hearing in Chicago that you don’t hear of many white people or young professionals arrested for marijuana possession. Lawmakers are trying to find consensus for a plan to legalize recreational marijuana in the state.
