The Vandalia Fire Department responded to a residential fire in Shobonier on Friday morning which resulted in one fatality. After receiving a call at 9:59am, the fire department was on scene at 10:08am to find the structure involved with heavy fire and smoke. VFD contacted the Patoka and St. Peter Fire Departments who provided two additional water trucks and manpower to fight the blaze. Due to the amount of damage, the State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted and was on scene. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office was also contacted and asked to report to the scene as there was one fatality as a result of the fire. No other information is available as of this time.
Meanwhile, Rural Med EMS says they were on the scene of the fatal fire on Friday in Shobonier. Jerrod Estes with Rural Med EMS says they attempted to gain entry into the home along with a Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy. But, he says the flames were too overwhelming. Estes also added there were oxygen bottles exploding due to the fire.
