Shirley Marie Klitzing, 83, of Brownstown, IL passed away at 12:44 AM, Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A visitation for Ms. Klitzing will be held from 5-7 PM, Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia. Interment will be held at a later date. Shirley Marie Klitzing was born May 15, 1934 in Altamont, IL, the daughter of William and Helen (Huelskoetter) Klitzing. Shirley was a waitress for many years in Mattoon, worked at McCoy’s for nearly 15 years, and also at Crane Packing in Vandalia for 22 years. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia, the Brownstown Golden Years Club, and the Vandalia HCE (Home and Community Education) Group. Shirley was also an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.
She is survived by her son, Christopher Klitzing and wife Nancy of Vandalia; grandchildren, Katie, Justin, Cory, and Alison Klitzing; great-grandchildren, Skylar, Trinity, and Karrigan; sister-in-law, Helen Klitzing of Altamont; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Arland, Belford, Geredt, and Myron Klitzing.
