The Director of the Okaw Vocational Center will be adding a big piece to his plate for the next 6 months or so. The Vandalia School Board held a special meeting Friday afternoon and unanimously selected Nick Casey as the interim Superintendent of Schools. Casey currently serves as the Director of the Okaw Vocational Center and is also the Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach for Vandalia High School. Casey will officially take over as interim Superintendent of Schools on Monday and will serve until the permanent Superintendent of Schools is hired and takes over, presumably after this school year is completed. As for the permanent hire, the interview process will begin by the Vandalia School Board in December, with a new hire expected in January–but that person more than likely wouldn’t be able to take over until after the current school year is completed. Casey is not a candidate for the permanent position.
Casey takes over for Rich Well, who resigned at Tuesday night’s Vandalia School Board meeting for personal reasons. Well has been in the district for 27 years and has been the Superintendent of Schools for better than 11 years.
