Olde Tyme Christmas will continue it’s Vandalia tradition tonight. The events will kick off with the lighting of the City Christmas Tree at the top of Gallatin Street hill at 5 pm, followed immediately by the Rotary Club Christmas Parade. Stores throughout the downtown area will have sales and specials going on throughout the evening. There will also be an added number of vendors this year, with up to 30 vendors expected in the downtown area for tonight’s event. Among the other features will be trolley car rides, the Grinch and Friends in the downtown area, live reindeer, Santa and Mrs. Claus will set up shop tonight at the former Copper Penny location. There will be music including the Chime Masters back for the event tonight. The events will be going on until 9 pm tonight. And, then will also be on Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.
It is the official kick off of the holiday season tonight with Olde Tyme Christmas and it will feel like it. According to Weather Underground, we’ll be at 36 degrees at 5 pm, and it will feel like 31 at that time. We’ll continue to drop just a bit throughout the evening down to 31 degrees during the 8 pm hour.
