There is another candidate entering the race for the Republican nomination for the area’s State Senate seat. George Barber, who has been the head men’s basketball coach at Greenville University for the past 18 years, is officially entering the race. The 53 year old Barber entered the race this week, echoing many of the same concerns brought up by other candidates in the race. With Barber entering the race, there are now 4 Republicans running for the nomination of the 54th district State Senate seat—Barber, Jason Plummer, Rafael Him and Ben Stratemeyer. All are vying to be nominated in the March primary for the right to run in the November 2018 election.
