This is mating season for deer and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is urging drivers to be extra cautious on the roads. Motorists should be vigilant for deer darting into the road, especially in rural areas says DNR Spokesperson Ed Cross.
Cross says deer often stop in the middle of the road or double back. Last year in Illinois, 41 percent of deer-vehicle crashes occurred in October.
