(Springfield, IL) — The union that represents prison guards in Illinois says attacks like the one that happened at a Quad Cities prison last month are all too common. AFSCME leaders yesterday told reporters at the statehouse that there’s been an increase in the number of attacks on guards in both adult and juvenile prisons in the state. AFSCME says a guard at the East Moline Correctional Center was beaten with a rock by an inmate, but she couldn’t call for help because her radio didn’t work.
