(Springfield, IL) — State government isn’t going to save Springfield. A new report on the capital city’s economy says Springfield and Sangamon County leaders must find a new economic model that doesn’t rely on state government. The nearly 70-page report was released Tuesday. The report says Springfield’s business climate is plagued by bureaucracy, insider deals, and a model that depended on state government for decades. Springfield gets credit for having a low cost of living, but gets dinged in the report for the ‘negative attitude’ of the locals.
