There will be a change in the judge presiding over the case of a man charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography. Judge Don Sheafor has recused himself from the case of 37-year old Ryan J. Koontz that has already seen several changes of defense attorney including one that failed to show for the second day of trial as well as the defendant himself failing to show for trial and then being found by law enforcement after a search that spanned several days. Judge Sheafor briefly stated on record that he had submitted a request for investigation concerning Koontz’s former defense attorney Shin Cho with the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission. In an attempt to make sure there was no conflict with the case, Sheafor on Tuesday entered into the docket that he was recusing himself from the case. A pre-trial in the matter is currently set for next Thursday, October 12 at 11am. Koontz currently remains in Fayette County Jail as his bond was revoked following his failure to show up in court for his trial back in April.
