(Chicago, IL) — Governor Rauner is continuing to take political heat for his approval of a bill that expands access to abortions in Illinois. Some members of the Republican congressional delegation are the latest members of his party to slam Governor Rauner for signing HB40. The measure extends state-paid abortion coverage to state employees and women on Medicaid. Rauner has pivoted when asked about the reaction to the bill by his fellow Republicans. He says he hopes to focus on things everyone agrees on, like the need for jobs in Illinois. When asked if he expects a primary challenge, Rauner said he can’t predict the future, but he’s not focused on politics right now.
