The Vandalia City Council approved a new liquor license during Monday’s first meeting of October. A Class J license which is a pour only license was approved for Discount Tobacco which is planning to add a gaming section to its location by Family Video on Gallatin Street. To have gaming in the establishment, a liquor license was needed. First reading of the application was done at a previous meeting and the ordinance to change to number of Class J licenses to allow the approval of the license for Discount Tobacco was approved by a vote of 5-1 with alderman Ken Hubler voting no on the matter and alderman Mike Hobler and alderwoman Dorothy Crawford not present for the vote.
In other business at the meeting, the council approved two transfer of lake lots for Vandalia Lake and also held a moment of silence for the victims of the mass shooting that occurred in Las Vegas Sunday night.
