There are a lot of events going on around Fayette County this weekend.
It is Homecoming weekend at Vandalia High School. The annual homecoming parade will be at 2:30 this afternoon and will keep the same route as last year, in the area around the schools. The Vandals will play Staunton in tonight’s homecoming game at Mark Greer Field beginning at 6:30 pm. The new members of the Hall of Fame will be introduced before the game and the Homecoming Court and New Royalty will be introduced at halftime.
On Saturday, the Vandalia Historical Society will host “Wine & Ale with Abe” that will be going on from 12 pm to 6 pm at the Vandalia Statehouse Lawn. There will be wine and beer tasting, craft/artists vendor fair, food, live music and a bags tournament. The proceeds will go to the Statehouse Window Restoration Project.
There will be a Cemetery Walk going on Saturday from 1 pm to 4 pm in the Old State Cemetery at 2nd and Edwards Streets in Vandalia. The event is sponsored by the National Road Interpretive Center.
The Fayette County Fairgrounds in Brownstown will have their Craft, Vendor Fair and Wine Tasting Event going on 10 to 4 pm, with the proceeds to benefit the Fayette County Fair Queen Pageant.
Vandalia’s Little Community Garden will have their annual Harvest Festival Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm at Mother of Dolors Parish Hall. There will be lunch, dozens of vendors, garden goods and activities for the kids. Also, the Vandalia Soroptimist will have their annual Build a Scarecrow Booth on Saturday at the Harvest Festival event.
For VCHS Grads, Saturday night is the All School Reunion and Alumni Banquet. It will be going on at the Vandalia Moose Lodge from 5 pm to 11 pm on Saturday night. The Distinguished Alumni Award Presentation will be held at 8 pm.
