(Chicago, IL) — A trial begins today in Chicago against former Illinois Congressman Mel Reynolds. The twice-convicted felon was indicted in 2015 on misdemeanor charges accusing him of failing to file federal income tax returns between 2009 and 2012. Since his indictment, Reynolds has been jailed for violating his bond and reprimanded for tweeting comments about a witness in the case. He is representing himself against the tax charges.
