(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Pirates scored eight first-inning runs as they romped past the Cardinals, 11-6, in Pittsburgh. David Freese laced a two-run single, and Jordy Mercer clubbed a bases-clearing triple to highlight the frame. Mercer finished with four RBI, and Gerrit Cole earned the win despite giving up seven hits and five runs. The rubber match is Sunday. Lance Lynn gave up six hits and eight runs while recording just two outs for the Cards’ to take the loss. Tommy Pham homered and added an RBI-double to pace the Cardinals. St. Louis had its four-game win streak snapped.
