(Enfield, IL) — A lot of folks in Enfield worked in the coal mines, or knew someone who did. They say that’s why they’re hoping to see the benefit of fracking. The state of Illinois in late August approved a permit to open the first fracking site just outside of the tiny town in southern Illinois. Thousands of people filed objections to the permit, but locals told “The Southern Illinoisan” last week that they’re hoping to see jobs or at least economic development come back to their region when the fracking site opens, whenever that may be.
