St. Louis, MO) — Randall Grichuck’s eighth-inning, RBI-groundout proved to be the difference as the Cardinals topped the Pirates, 4-3, in St. Louis. Matt Carpenter tied the game with a solo shot in the seventh, and Yadier Molina belted a two-run shot in the second. Carpenter says he has a good feeling about this team.
Carlos Martinez struck out eight over six innings of work, with Tyler Lyons notching the win. The Cards have won six of their past seven games. Reliever George Kontos fell to 0-and-6 for Pittsburgh. Adam Frazier had an inside-the-park-home run and also drilled an RBI-double. The Bucs have dropped four straight.
