(Murphysboro, IL) — It’s that time of year again, the time when southern Illinois‘ Snake Road once again gets reserved for the snakes. Wildlife managers in the Shawnee National Forest are closing the road in the park that is used by local snakes and amphibians as a mating and hibernating trail. Snake Road will be closed from September 1st till October 30th. Biologists say thousands of snakes and other creatures use the road to get from their summer locations to their winter sleeping quarters.
