After multiple attempts Monday night, Illinois House lawmakers approved legislation to make sure schools get state funding. The bill was negotiated by the four legislative leaders and failed on the first try. House Minority Leader Jim Durkin urged his colleagues to vote Yes on the bill that revamps the way state dollars are doled out to schools.
Supporters stressed that all schools will get more money under the plan. It also includes a 75 million dollar tax credit for those donating money towards private school scholarships. The bill now moves to the Senate.
